Zero Energy Dinner

By Coleen Christie

Imagine cooking dinner for a group of 100 people -- without using any electricity, gas, or energy source of any kind.  That's exactly what the brilliant chefs at Diva at The Met did recently.

The "Zero Energy Dinner" was a funraiser for Clean Air Champions, a national environmental education charity where Olympians and Canadian National Team athletes visit schools across Canada to teach kids about the environment. Some ten Canadian Olympians attended the dinner, rotating from table to table with each course so that we could all chat with them.

Check out the photos I've posted of each coarse and you'll get a better idea of the challenge the chefs were up against. It was one of the better multi-course meals I've had, not just because the food was delicious and beautifully presented, but because we didn't feel stuffed and bloated aftewards. There's something to this raw food movement. Cudos to Diva Executive Chef Dino Renaerts and his Chef de Cuisine, Jeff Van Geest. A lot of talent in one kitchen.

One of the other benifits of the dinner was the athletic endevours that came from it -- specifically rowing with Olympic Men's Eight Gold Medalist Adam Kreek, and Speed Skating with 2010 hopeful, Brittany Schussler. More on that in my next post.
